Where Did I Go???

I’ve had my own website for a long time.  I registered brentbutt.com in the mid 70s, if I recall correctly (may have been the 90s, but these are just details).  Put it this way; when I was designing my original site with the web guy, we chose a white background for the site, because a website with any colour or graphics on the wallpaper would take a lot longer to load.  So I was ahead of the curve in terms of being a Canadian entertainer adopting new technology.  Now, granted, I never really did anything with that headstart.  The website just sat for about 8 years as a virtual poster that told people who I was, what I did, and how to get ahold of my agent.  I’m sure close to a dozen people a year stopped by.

But times have changed, and my website is far more dynamic now - videos, photos, blogs, animated swirly stuff popping up now and then to annoy you - it’s a happening thing.  But from those early days until now, I’ve always had someone to do the posting for me, and I never had to learn how to do it.  Well, my last guy up and went off to law school, and before rushing off to hire a new guy, I thought “Maybe I can do this”.  Technology has been made very user friendly, and sites such as Tumblr here make it very easy.  But my own website has it’s own blog post built in.  So any blogging and videoing and photoing I’ve been doing, I’ve been doing over there.  So… if you have any interest, please feel free to join me over at BrentButt.com.  That’s where most of my stuff will be going up.  Although, maybe I’ll do it there and here as well.  I don’t know.  Let me know what you think.

See you around.

Ok, now I’m going to try posting a photo up here.  I know that’s probably a very hum-drum proposition to you.  But you have to remember; you are a technological genius with an IQ of 197, whereas I am just a simple farm boy.  Well… townie, really… but it was a farming town.  Ok, here’s a photo.  Hopefully.
How about this: if you see a photo up here… here it is.

What an outrageous… uh… “scandal” isn’t really the word.

I have never fancied myself a political animal.  Actually, I have rarely fancied myself at all.  However, on those occasions where I do end up fancying myself, it’s not as a chap who’s especially savvy in the arena of politics.  Yet the intriguing thing about politics, I find, is that it seems to generate incredibly deep, strong, divisive opinions from people who appear to have no significantly greater amount of that savvy than I do.  People tend to pick a side, throw up a flag, and slam the doors and windows shut to make sure no varying opinion blows in from across the way to stink up the joint.  It’s a comical situation at its best, and a dangerous situation at its worst, but it’s not one that’s likely to change anytime soon.  It’s worked for thousands of years.  Well… “worked” may not be the right word.

At any rate, here’s what got me thinking about politics today:

There is a video online that apparently is quite the scandal, and has tongues a-flapping and a-clucking and a-wagging to no end.  It is tagged in a way that leads us to believe the right-wing conservatives will do anything to prevent us - you know…the folks - from seeing it. It is suggested they have sued to keep it from being available for viewing on YouTube.

Well, that’s all I needed to hear.  I think the five year old in all of us is drawn to something we “aren’t supposed to see”.  So I watched the video.  When it was done, I thought to myself “Ok… what did I miss?”  So I watched it again.  Nothing.  Apparently the scandal is that the conservatives want to win every election that comes down the pike.  Federally, municipally, provincially… if it’s an election in Canada, they want to win it!  Those… I don’t know… jerks, I guess.

My point is that I’m missing the point of the apparent outrage here.  Do the Liberals and the NDP and the Bloc and the Green and the Whozits and the Whatsits want anything different?  If I were running a political party, I would be quite open about my desires for that party to win every election and/or foot race and/or bar fight that came our way.

The only thing I found outrageous on this video is a bunch of dudes wearing suits at a BBQ.  (Open collar - no tie - ‘cause they’re just hangin’.)  At any rate, I may be missing something.  I often am.  You can watch the video here… if you dare!!!   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6uhy60uJao

(I love the scary dramatic music off the top.)  If I am missing the point, feel free to let me know.

Most sincerely,

Brent

A Simple Test, for a simple man.

Well hello.

A lot of my friends have been telling me I should open a Tumblr account.  By “a lot” I mean “one” and by “my friends” I mean “stranger in a mall”.  Well, I pride myself on being a guy who does what he’s told, so I sat myself down at my computing machine and dialed up Tumblr.com.

What followed was a good seven or eight minutes of staring blankly, followed by me seeking out a video tutorial on YouTube, which was subsequently followed by some dinner and BOOM, here we are.

This first post is simply a test to see if I am doing any portion of this properly.  More will probably follow.  Maybe.  Probably.  No promises.

What a time to be alive.

Most sincerely,

Brent
